Ms. Grace McCullough gave birth to baby Luna Eztli Maria on September 28.

Ms. Grace, who is a history teacher and chair of the UTLA chapter at CATS, went on maternity leave at the end of September. Long-term substitute Ms. Angel has been covering for her since then.

Anthony G., a senior, said that Ms. Grace’s temporary departure was met with “mixed emotions.”

“For me, the short departure of Ms. Grace is a sad experience as she always puts one hundred [percent] of her energy into her work,” he said. “She is the one to bring life into her class.”

Ms. Jocelyn Lopez, history teacher, said, “Her not being her — you can definitely feel like her presence is missing,” adding that “I can speak for everyone in my department that Grace is definitely a cheerleader. Always has a positive energy and positive attitude.”

Mr. Rafael Romo, the ACE site administrator, said, “I do miss her energy, I miss her presence. She just has this great energy. And I know the students miss her.”

Senior Evelyn G. attended Ms. Grace’s surprise baby shower on September 13, which took place on the 3rd floor landing of the building before school. “The baby shower from Ms. Grace was a nice experience to take part in and I was happy to assist in the baby shower.”

Though many may miss Ms. Grace, she won’t be gone forever. “I do plan to return to CATS, but not this semester. I will return some time in mid-January in the second semester.”

Congratulations, Ms. Grace!
