Letter to the editor: Meet CATS’ New Principal

The following are letters to the editor written by CATS students. They have been lightly edited for clarity.

To the editor, 

I read the article titled “Meet CATS’ New Principal Mr. Gosselin” by Jeremy L, Axel C, and Joshua C. This article caught my attention because I’ve seen Mr. Gosselin around but never talked to him until recently. A few weeks ago, there was an issue in class and he apologized because at first he didn’t get the story of what happened from me, which was his mistake. He got it from other people instead. But he apologized and he talked about how he wants me to feel safe and comfortable in school and classes, which is a good thing. 

I feel that he is going to be a good principal. I noticed he doesn’t talk a lot because he is getting to know the school, students and staff. Ms. Grace stated “Mr. Gosselin is very organized and really comes to our school with an open mindset. He’s told us he really wants to get to know us, see if we need anything and figure out how he can support us in any way, and I think that’s also what Dr. G wanted.” She also said,  “They both want us to have a kind of fresh outlook on ourselves.” Which I have noticed, and it’s a good thing. 

I think students and teachers should get to know him by having him come to the classes and having him answer some questions or something, or when we have a pep rally. We all got used to Dr. Gonzalez, and Mr. Gosselin might have new rules etc. For example Irvin, someone in the article, stated “For obvious reasons, the hall pass now changed and you have to be back in class on time and if you forgot to sign the chart you can get absent, which is what I like. That way not a lot of students miss class or do anything to waste teacher time.” Which is a good thing but also a bad thing because it can have a lot of germs, but the students will be quick to go back to class.

Leí el artículo titulado “Conozca al nuevo director de CATS, el Sr. Gosselin”, de Jeremy L, Axel C y Joshua C. Este artículo me llamó la atención porque había visto al Sr. Gosselin pero nunca hablé con él hasta hace poco. Hace unas semanas, hubo un problema en clase y se disculpó porque al principio no me escuchó la historia de lo que pasó, que fue su error. Lo obtuvo de otras personas en su lugar. Pero se disculpó y habló sobre cómo quiere que me sienta segura y cómoda en la escuela y en las clases, lo cual es algo bueno.

Siento que va a ser un buen director. Noté que no habla mucho porque está conociendo la escuela, los estudiantes y el personal. La Ms. Grace dijo: “Sr. Gosselin es muy organizado y realmente viene a nuestra escuela con una mentalidad abierta. Nos dijo que realmente quiere conocernos, ver si necesitamos algo y descubrir cómo puede apoyarnos de alguna manera, y creo que eso también es lo que quería la Dr. G”. También dijo: “Ambos quieren que tengamos una nueva perspectiva de nosotros mismos”. Lo cual he notado, y es algo bueno.

Creo que los estudiantes y los profesores deberían conocerlo haciéndole venir a las clases y haciéndole responder algunas preguntas o algo así, o cuando tenemos una reunión de ánimo. Todos nos acostumbramos a Dr. González, y el Sr. Gosselin podría tener nuevas reglas, etc. Por ejemplo, Irvin, alguien en el artículo, declaró: “Por razones obvias, el pase de pasillo ahora cambió y debe regresar a clase a tiempo y”. Si olvidaste firmar el cuadro puedes ausentarte, que es lo que me gusta. De esa manera, no muchos estudiantes faltarán a clase ni harán nada para perder el tiempo de los maestros”. Lo cual es bueno pero también malo porque puede tener muchos gérmenes, pero los estudiantes regresarán rápidamente a clase.
