The attackers who claimed responsibility for the hacking are called Vice Society, which is a Russian ransomware group recognized for targeting educational domains for ransom payments, according to the website TechCrunch. Shannon Haber, an LAUSD Spokesperson, stated in a press release that negotiating ransom is not an option as, “Public dollars are better spent on our students rather than capitulating to a nefarious and illicit crime syndicate.” The

A vigil was held at CATS for the 21 victims of the Uvalde shooting in Texas. Each empty chair represented a life lost to gun violence.
A Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) official released a statement on Thursday before the end of the school semester saying that it had “become aware of various threats of violence toward our schools” but that “there is no reason to believe our schools are in any danger.”

Looting has followed in the wake of protests across the country, just as many retailers and restaurants were reopening from the pandemic. While people were out protesting for justice, others took advantage of the situation to do crimes like looting, burning down things, stealing, and much more. On May 25th the life of George Floyd was taken by Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin in what was supposed to be an arrest not a murder. Videos capturing the arrest turned murder show Floyd (a man of color) with Chauvin’s knee placed on his neck preventing him from being able to breathe. Floyd is heard repeatedly telling the officer he couldn’t breathe. However, Chauvin ignored him, resulting in his murder. As a result thousands of people from all races, communities and around the world have come together in many ways to show support for black lives. With some not allowed to go to the Black Lives Matter protests because of COVID-19 or they’re teenagers whose parents fear that may not be safe to be around if things get ugly or any other reason, here’s how support comes in many different ways from many people.
