Kamala Harris announces 2020 presidential run

The presidential candidates of 2020 are fighting to become president and there have been some outstanding candidates who have caught everyone’s attention. So far we have had our eyes set between Kamala Harris and Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders is once again going for president and for Kamala this is her first time. We have interviewed people who have spoken about Kamala Harris and why right now she’s good for becoming president. Kamala Harris is opening many doors for those who don’t have a voice. 

Kamala is a supporter of abortion rights and voted against a bill that would limit abortion to the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. She also launched an investigation on anti-abortion activist David daleiden, whose undercover videos later sparked charges of breaking privacy laws. “I’m so excited because there is a woman of color running for president.” Said Dr. Gonzalez, principal of CATS.

“Kamala Harris has always been for the people,” states her campaign.  A lot of people think that Kamala Harris is for the people. She’s been fighting to fix our broken criminal justice system to take on the wall street banks for middle-class homeowners. 

There are some concerns about Kamala. “Kamala Harris, she needs to stay farther away from big corporate money and needs more support from the people,” Dr. Gonzalez added.

A lot of students don’t want Trump to be president for all the chaos he has caused including the government shutdown. “Trump has passed record for the longest government shutdown he’s going to worsen the state of the country,” states Juan C., grade 10. Trump is visualized as a threat ever since he was one of the candidates in 2016. 

If Kamala wins this would be a life-changing moment not only for women but everyone in the US for so long men have been the only ones to rule but maybe things will start to change for the better. Kamala is the daughter of immigrants from India and Jamaica. Harris is also known for having broken barriers throughout her meteoric rise in California politics. 

This Democrat is the first African American and the first woman to be elected San Francisco district attorney in 2003 and state attorney general in 2010. In 2016, she became the second black woman and first South Asian woman elected to the Senate. Kamala Harris will fight hard till the end and we’ll see if her hard work has paid off.
