Mr. Monteon: Advisor for the Class of 2024
By Heyli G.
Mr. Monteon is a graphic design teacher and most students will have him for at least one year out of their four years of high school. What most people don’t know, however, is that he is the senior advisor for the class of 2024 and it’s his first time being a class advisor.
Let’s take a look at his duties and responsibilities.
Mr. Monteon goes with the flow when managing the senior class of 2024.
He shared that, because there is no handbook or guide for how to do this, “This is one thing I communicated with students that, you know, as their senior advisor, it’s like I’m learning as I go.”
According to Mr. Monteon, “If I’m lost or I don’t know what I’m doing, I go ask [Ms.] Ramos, I go ask whoever I need to ask to get the answers that I’m looking for.
One of his responsibilities is to help seniors raise money for their senior activities. He said, “Currently, we have a chocolate sale going on, so if you see our seniors selling, buy, please buy.”
He also said that seniors are currently working on T-shirt designs to sell next semester and to further help their fundraising. He said, “Also, we did recycling bottles last year, however, those weren’t cost-effective cause it was a lot of work and we got little in return.” As much as recycling bottles wasn’t cost-effective, it did contribute to $200, he said.
As of now, the seniors’ activities are prom, grad night, movie night, awards night, and a picnic.
He shared “grad night we’re choosing to go to Disneyland or California Adventure — one or the other — but we’re going Disney.”
He added that the school wants to take the seniors to the beach for their picnic in order to not have the picnic at school, “but we need seniors, if you’re reading this, we need participation.”
He further expressed that “we need more senior spirit because it’s kind of lame when you have like only 10 students participating.”
He wants to make this memorable by having people participate.
