By Alejandro C.
Ms. Grace is a new teacher we got from Pathways Community school after it closed down.
Her teaching philosophy says, “I see myself as a facilitator for my students’ empowerment and learning. I will provide the resources and lessons, and hopefully, they will access, practice, master, and challenge themselves in new skills and concepts throughout the year. I hope that all of my lessons are connectable to my students’ lives, too.”
She graduated from UCLA step in 2014 and had been teaching in LAUSD since fall 2013. She has taught world history for 5 years to students in low-income, marginalized communities, such as Hawthorne and South Central.
Her work experience is extraordinary. She went to the University of California, Los Angeles from September 2012 – May 2014. She earned her teaching credential in the secondary social bilingual authorization.
She taught at Hawthorne High School from 2013 – 2015 and and Pathways Community School in South Central Los Angeles June 2015 – 2018.
She later earned her bachelor’s in American Studies: education and social organization participation in UC Washington Academic Internship Programs NEA intern Studied the Spanish language at University de Belgrano, Argentina. She has visited an Italy and France and South America.
She lived in Argentina for 3 months where she learned to speak Spanish. She later earned her bachelor’s in American Studies: education and social organization participation in UC Washington Academic Internship Programs NEA intern Studied the Spanish language at University de Belgrano, Argentina.
While she was at UC Berkeley, she went to art school and has a strong background with it.
She loves theater and always would love to participate in it. The idea for social justice is that every member of society + privileged society has a sense of justice. Teaching labor of love. She also believed in student empowerment and on inequality she would like for us to have more resources for themselves and their families to achieve justice. She mainly came because the teaching was really needed here. She also thinks people deserve to help around too.
Ms. Grace met her partner in UC Berkeley. She is interested in politics and community organization. They met being involved in all the activities they loved on campus. They do not plan on having kids because they are to busy with the kids (students) she has right now. They plan on having their careers then they might have kids. She loves how everyone is making her feel more comfortable here at CATS. She also is really happy being here.
