Huskies played their last home game on October 21 and finished the season with a playoff loss.

Jesus P., a Public Service student and one of the wide receivers, reflected on the team’s last home game saying, “It’s pretty sad, you know I’ve been playing since freshman year and it’s been a long ride with the team.”

It was a close game ending with a score of 50-46 with Los Angeles High School coming out with the win, but DRLC played their hardest and they just couldn’t come out with the win. Omar S., another student from Public Service who is also the starting Quarterback and one of the captains, said, “I feel like we had it in the bag. There was something fishy about the refs, but I mean we can’t complain. A win is a win and a loss is a loss.” He then continued by saying “I feel like we all tried our best but they just ended up being on top at the end.”

This loss was an unfortunate outcome for Diego Rivera’s football team. Diego’s record was 4-5. This year the team had the chance to beat the best record that the school has had, the best record being 5-5, but now this year’s football team can tie the record Omar S. “I feel terrific, you know just knowing we won four games and the season is not over yet, hoping to go 5-5. So, honestly, it’s a blessing to know that we can tie the record.”

Diego Rivera did tie the best record and went 5-5 after beating View Park. They then went to the playoffs and lost to Chatsworth 58-18.

Last year, when Diego played their senior night game the teams record was 0-8 and at the end of the season the team ended up with the record of 0-10.

Richard R., the defensive tackle and one of the captains from Public Service, provided a few reasons for this year’s success. “Well, we trained harder, we got new coaches, so that helped us a lot.” He then continued by saying “the thought of going 0-10 was on our mind this season and we knew we had to make major improvements.”
