Many students and staff expressed fear of the new presidential administration because of immigration and the economy.

On the topic of immigration, one student, who will be referred to as Student 1, said, “And when he came back again, I had nightmares about what happened the first time and now that he made ICE be more active and of border patrol.”

Student 1 fears for their family. “So now we have to be on a look out to make sure they’re not like spotted or anything around.”

Student 2 agreed saying, “It struck fear into my family because like we are immigrants and stuff.”

Staff are also being impacted by Trump’s  immigration policy.

Campus aide Mr. Francisco said, “It actually has impacted a couple of family members because they don’t have their legal status for our country. It’s scaring a lot of families, especially my family”

He continued saying, “It makes me sad that we have a president that is going against our community and he doesn’t really represent who we are as a whole nation. Which this nation was created by immigrants and people who came for a better life to this country.”

Fellow campus aide Ms. Maria also mentioned “Um, it makes me very upset because I know a lot of great friends and loved ones that are living with fear and we shouldn’t live with fear because as it is. Over all friends and family are living with fear because of the new immigration policy.”

In addition to the topic of  immigration, staff  and students mentioned that they are concerned with the economy and the government’s plan to shrink the  government.

Ms. Maria said, “he promised that he was going to lower the rent. He was going to economize food because everything is so expensive and all that.”

Mr. Monteon, Graphic Design teacher, commented about his wife’s job.

He stated that “My wife has a government job, and as of yesterday, they were offering her to resign her position, so to kind of quit and she would be offered to get paid for the next seven months. But after that, she’d be out of a job.
So what he’s trying to do is trying to make federal employees resign so that he doesn’t have to fire them and make himself look bad.”

Now, the president has said he may run a third  time, which goes against the U.S. Constitution.

“I mean, technically, this is his last president time, but if he was chosen for a third time, which is not possible, but if it was to happen, I would say no because I’m not trying to suffer a third time while he’s back,” Student 1 said. “So I’d rather be at peace and have someone else in mind.”
