Students say sports equipment is lacking at Diego Rivera

Some students believe that Diego Rivera isn’t doing a good enough job providing quality sports equipment.
Joel G. a senior at Diego Rivera and student athlete who plays many different sports such as soccer, volleyball, and cross country, said the lack of sports equipment and the quality of the equipment affects the overall performance of the team.
He said, “I think it doesn’t give all the student athletes the opportunities that other schools give their student athletes, you know? And maybe that can cause stress on them.”
He explained that students may feel they aren’t performing as well, but he said “it’s not their fault; it’s the schools not giving them the recommended amount of equipment.
David E., a junior at Diego Rivera and a student athlete who plays varsity soccer, said other sports at the complex get more attention than others.
He said, “I think the school can be a little less biased towards other sports other than the football team.¨
He also said the lack of sports equipment can affect teams confidence-wise and would like the school to supports students in and outside of the field.
Alondra O., a senior at PACS who plays volleyball and has played ever since she was a little kid, said the lack of sports equipment has caused her team to not be able to play some games.
Alondra said “one of our volleyball nets got messed up, and we had no other net to play with. Also without that volleyball net we weren’t able to play a few games for our season, so it definitely affected our season.”
There are many solutions to this big problem at Diego Rivera.
For example Joel G. said, “Maybe we can do a lot more fundraisers, maybe increase the budgets for sports and it’s not a priority but it’s still something the students love doing.”
Some sports like volleyball sell chocolate bars to fundraise to go to tournaments.
David E. had a different solution. He thinks that the school should budget better and be more equal to everyone and every sport in the school.
