A key problem has been the malfunctioning of students’ Chromebooks. Cristopher Z. a 11th grader, said, “My Chromebook won’t connect to the wifi and at home, and my keys are missing.” Similarly, Daniel S. had problems getting a new Chromebook as, “there are a lot of kids who need Chromebooks and chargers as well.” But some think the problem partly lies with students. One of those changes will be that CATS will no longer have a technician/IT person, which is currently Mr. Angel Canlas’ job. Principal Sean Gosselin said “It depends on the average students that are expected for next year,” referring to the decreased budget, something that he can’t control because it’s based on the average of students attending next year. The attackers who claimed responsibility for the hacking are called Vice Society, which is a Russian ransomware group recognized for targeting educational domains for ransom payments, according to the website TechCrunch.
