On February 3, 2019, the New England Patriots beat the Los Angeles Rams on the biggest stage in Super Bowl 53 at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Patriots beat the Rams by a score of 13-3 and was a very close game throughout the way. With no touchdowns in the first three quarters in the game, it looked like anyone’s ball game. However in the fourth quarter the Patriots got the first touchdown taking their second lead of the game. With the Rams trailing by seven points with a score of 10-3, the Rams almost seemed to tie the game. However in the fourth quarter, Rams Quarterback Jared Goff threw an interception to Cornerback Stephon Gilmore. At this point the game was over, with the Patriots scoring another field goal making the final score of 13-3. The Patriots win as they capitalize their sixth Super Bowl championship, all with Tom Brady who is the oldest player to win the super bowl.

Anguel, an 11th grader at our school who played football here at Diego Rivera, watched the Super Bowl and had very interesting thoughts about it.

“Watching the game wasn’t up my league, but at the end of the day, it was a really good defensive game. I like the Rams, but I knew the Patriots were gonna win because they’re more experienced than them in playing in the Super Bowl”, said Anguel I,11th grader.

An anonymous Rams fan however had a different perspective of the game.

“The Rams played it too safe, they ended up choking on the big stage.” The Rams had an opportunity to come back and take the lead in the game during the first three quarters. With the Patriots being so dominant on defense they shut down them down not allowing a single touchdown.“I was really disappointed with the outcome of the game, the Rams didn’t even score a single touchdown” said an Anonymous Rams here at our school.

The Patriots and Rams both came a long way to reach the Super Bowl. They beat the Los Angeles Chargers in a slaughter fest by a score of 41-28, and then went on the road to beat the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 37-31 in overtime. The Rams played the Dallas Cowboys in the divisional round by a score 30-22, and later went on to beat the Saints 26-23 in a very controversial game by a non-call pass interference against the Rams, which would have affected the outcome of the game.

This was not the first time Tom Brady and the Patriots beat the Rams in the Super Bowl. They faced off in Super Bowl 36 back in 2002, where the Patriots beat the Rams by a score of 20-17. This was Tom Brady’s first of six rings with the Patriots, creating a historic dynasty.

An attempt was made to reach out the Los Angeles Rams, specifically Jared Goff, but he hasn’t responded at the moment.
