What it’s like to be a new teacher

By Pascual M.
Many new teachers joined CATS this year. So, how was their experience?
Mr. Noah Kroll joined as biology teacher, and this was actually his first teaching job.
He said overall it was “pretty good.”
“You know, with being a new teacher, I think there’s a lot of challenges that go along with that. There’s a lot of things you have to kinda learn on the fly,“ he said.
“And, obviously, I made some mistakes. I did some things that I was able to, you know, get better at, over the course of the quarter.”
He joined the school because “it was in a South region, which is kinda where I was hoping to work relative to it was close to where I live.”
He taught all grade levels and said some of the challenges that he experienced were, “I would say with the seniors, just making sure they’re on track to fulfill everything they need to fulfill before graduation.”
Another new teacher is Mr. Tony Nueva who teaches chemistry.
He said one of the biggest priorities for him was trying to figure out the type of chemistry teacher he wants to be.
He said, “I think one of the biggest challenges is trying to make the connection of what students learn in class and how that can, how that relates with students’ personal lives.”
Lastly, another new teacher was is Ms. Maria Gomez, who teaches Spanish.
Ms. Gomez had said she had a “great experience.”
“I’ve learned a lot from the students, and I really enjoyed my classes and my students,” she said.
She said her goals are to have students achieve the target language.
