Why do some staff members and students have side jobs?

By Rene H.
Did you know many students and staff actually have side hustles outside of school?
For example, 11th grader Bella N. is an entrepreneur herself and does her own side hustle, which is doing nails.
She started doing nails “to get money on the side because I wanted to start by buying my own things personally.”
But it wasn’t always easy for her. She said, ”My biggest struggle was to stay consistent and it took me, like, two years because I didn’t have the time to do nails all the time.”
Bella also was very inspired about her business and dealt with a lot of challenges especially with skills she had to learn.
Her hardest skill was “the small designs on the nose were really difficult because like the way I use my hand.”
Community Rep, Francisco Santos also has side gigs doing different jobs like delivering food and items to people through UberEats.
“I started this side hustle because it was more of a necessity for me than a job,” he said. “One of the hardest things to learn while starting this hustle was finding what house or where to deliver.”
His profits also depend on how good the week is.
“On my best week I made roughly about $300 to $400,” he said.
Something that inspired him was the need to survive and pay bills and not fall back. One of his favorite meals he had delivered was McDonald’s since it is very fast and easy for him to do.

Former Teacher Assistant Rafeal Nuila also shared his side hustle, which is investing in stocks, trades and options.
Mr. Nuila said that taking on something new to learn and do made him want to start this side hustle.
He said, “One of the hardest things he had to learn while doing this was understanding what all the numbers meant.”
Something else that was hard for him to learn was patience and when to pull out of a trade.
He shared that something that inspired him to keep doing this was because it’s a hit or miss and sometimes you hit and don’t but it will never be the same.
He added that “My favorite stock I invested in was Starbucks because it was the first time it made me a whole lot of money.”
