Here’s a sports update on the Diego Rivera Huskies.
Soccer
Player spotlight: Heinze L.
Heinze L., a junior, said he joined soccer this year because his friend wanted him to join and he felt confident. He’s been playing soccer since he was four but stopped for three years. He likes his coach Gil and his 16 teammates, but he said “we just have to practice more.” His first game was on November 15th when they played against Carson. (Diego Rivera Huskies won 4-0).
Heinze said, “someone subbed me out for the first 20 minutes, but when I got in, I became the best in the west.”
The next soccer game is Tuesday, January 11, 2022. It’s at Manual Arts High School.
Heinze L., un estudiante de tercer año, dijo que se unió al fútbol este año porque su amigo quería unirse y se sentía seguro. Ha estado jugando al fútbol desde que tenía cuatro años, pero dejó de jugar durante tres años. Le gusta su entrenador Gil y sus 16 compañeros, pero dijo que “tenemos que practicar más”. Su primer partido fue el 15 de noviembre cuando jugaron contra Carson. (Diego Rivera Huskies ganó 4-0).
Heinze dijo: “alguien me sustituyó durante los primeros 20 minutos, pero cuando entré, me convertí en el mejor del oeste”.

Baseball
Coach spotlight: Mr. Hovsepian
The baseball coach and gym teacher, Mr. H, said he enjoys coaching, saying “I hope to teach players life lessons and I hope my players grow up successful because when I was younger I had many great coaches.”
Baseball tryouts were held on December 6. During the recent tryouts he said, thirty players tried out, which is enough for two teams. He hopes that continues next semester.
His future plans for the team are “to build a positive culture, be competitive, have fun, and learn lessons on and off the field.” Baseball starts in the spring.
El entrenador de béisbol y profesor de gimnasia, Sr. H, dijo que le gusta entrenar y dijo: “Espero enseñarles a los jugadores lecciones de vida y espero que mis jugadores crezcan exitosamente porque cuando era más joven tuve muchos entrenadores excelentes”.

Softball:
Player Spotlight: Alejandra L.
For a little bit of background on what’s going on in softball, we interviewed Alejandra L., a second base. She’s been playing since freshman year. She enjoys playing softball and said she would recommend it to a friend because “it’s pretty fun and boosts up your communications skills with others. They started the softball season on December 13. Games will begin in the spring.
