Movie Review: I was expecting more from ‘Morbius’

The movie “Morbius” is about a doctor-slash-scientist named Micheal Morbius who, due to his award-winning work with synthetic blood, tries to cure himself by injecting bat blood into his own body. The experiment doesn’t go as planned, and throughout the movie, he explores his new, unintentional powers.
It looked promising, unfortunately, the writers added too many unneeded stories into the plot. For example, the love interest. It starts off with her being a regular assistant and then later on, with not much explanation, they kiss and are all in love. It felt rushed and incomplete.
They explored many themes such as love, family and saving people, which they failed to do well by compacting it all. It felt almost too short. Maybe if the movie were longer they would have been able to go into detail about everything they threw in, like his relationships and his love interest. It almost felt like a short film or YouTube video; it just didn’t feel like a complete movie.
For an introduction movie to a superhero, it didn’t focus enough on his powers and his enemy. It is possible to have all of those aspects such as “The Batman,” another superhero movie that came out around the same time as “Morbius.” I compare these two because they share the same aspects of two people who want to do good but have to deal with problems and love interests and relationships.
“The Batman” was a really great movie. He had his problems fighting his enemies and dealing with his parents being dead, along with his love interest with Cat Woman, but it all worked because the movie took its time to explain and go in depth with everything they wanted to add in (it was three hours), making it worth it.
“Morbius” lasted for one hour and forty minutes, which really doesn’t give it enough time to explain everything and give enough time for everything they wanted in the plot. The fight scenes were really good, though, such as when he was fighting his enemy at the church in slow motion and pretty awesome CGI, showing how powerful Morbius is. And yet, sometimes the powers didn’t even feel explained or at least how he was able to do certain things. It’s important to note that the movie’s director has not made the best movies, including “Child 44,” “Safe House,” and “Snabba Cash 2,” which didn’t do very well in ratings all around the world.

Es posible tener todos esos aspectos, como “The Batman”, otra película de superhéroes que salió casi al mismo tiempo que “Morbius”. “The Batman” fue una película realmente genial. Tuvo sus problemas luchando contra sus enemigos y lidiando con la muerte de sus padres, junto con su interés amoroso con Cat Woman, pero todo funcionó porque la película se tomó su tiempo para explicar y profundizar en todo lo que querían agregar (fue tres horas), por lo que vale la pena.
“Morbius” duró una hora y cuarenta minutos, lo que realmente no le da suficiente tiempo para explicar todo y dar suficiente tiempo para todo lo que querían en la trama. Sin embargo, las escenas de lucha eran realmente buenas, como cuando luchaba contra su enemigo en la iglesia en cámara lenta y un CGI bastante impresionante, que mostraba lo poderoso que es Morbius.
