Students at CATS have reported experiencing technology problems after the dismissal of Mr. Angel, the former tech specialist, at the end of the previous school year.

A key problem has been the malfunctioning of students’ Chromebooks.

Cristopher Z. a 11th grader, said, “My Chromebook won’t connect to the wifi and at home, and my keys are missing.”

Similarly, Daniel S. had problems getting a new Chromebook as, “there are a lot of kids who need Chromebooks and chargers as well.”

But some think the problem partly lies with students.

Assistant Principal Mr. Antonio Roque said, “the problem is that students aren’t taking care of their Chromebooks.”

However, he did acknowledge that the school doesn’t have an unlimited supply of Chromebooks.

A solution to this problem, Mr. Roque suggested, is that “students can tell the teacher, so they can download a physical copy and they can work on those as an alternative.”

Cristopher Z. said that sometimes it can be hard to get a physical copy as some teachers also experience their own technical issues, such as printers that don’t work.

Mr. Roque’s plan to decrease the amount of students who don’t have their Chromebooks is to possibly go into advisories and to teach students on how to take care of their Chromebooks so they don’t get frequently broken.

Cristopher Z. put it bluntly: “We are a tech school. We don’t have a tech person. That just means that it doesn’t fulfill the purpose of the school.”
