Profile: Ms. Suarez rocks science

Did you know that Suarez was in a band? Suarez was in a band back then, before she was a teacher. When Ms. Suarez was in high school she did many interesting things, including starting a band with her and a couple of her friends. She was in the band for about 7 years the instrument that she played the guitar. During that time Suarez toured around the world, some of the places she traveled to were United States, Europe, United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, and Japan. When asked about her experience she said, “It was an incredible experience and I learned so much about making music, and just being a person in the world.”

Former charter school principal discusses charter-vs-district debate and the teacher strike

One of the most controversial UTLA agreements is that LAUSD will put a pause on allowing new charter schools to open up. UTLA wants to put a cap on charter schools because they say that charter schools take money away from LAUSD schools. Schools get money for each student that attends, so when those students leave and start going to charter schools, their former schools won’t get money for them anymore. Some also say charter schools provide a worse quality education, while others say they can provide a better alternative for educators and students who feel limited by LAUSD’s rules.

UTLA teachers strike for better teaching, learning, living conditions

In Los Angeles, California during January 7th through the 11th, teachers were planning to strike against LAUSD if a reasonable agreement was not met.UTLA and LAUSD met every day during January 7th through 11th to get an agreement to happen to avoid the strike. In preparation for the strike teachers prepared their students by giving them information on how things were going to work during the strike.

Diego Rivera celebrates Black History Month 2019

Diego Rivera administrators organized a number of events to celebrate Black History Month such as having guest speakers in the MPR, and hanging black history posters in the hallways. They also gave the students the option to wear certain colors on a specific day all throughout the month.
